Can you host a fellow MoveOn member who is
coming to
Philadelphia in June?
MoveOn members are coming to town for "Camp
MoveOn," an exciting grassroots leadership training. We're working with
the same folks who created "Camp Obama," one of the secrets behind
the Obama campaign's effective organizing.
To keep it affordable, we're looking for places
for
MoveOn members to stay. Do you have a spare bed or couch you can offer
from
June 19th to 21st?

the plate and fix our broken health care system. Now that change is
finally
here, we’ll help you stay at the center of the action.

it's
important our health care dialogue stays alive.

Settlement
Freeze NOW
|
Following
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of a full
settlement freeze, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said yesterday
that President Obama "wants to see a stop to settlements - not some
settlements, not outposts, not natural-growth exceptions." [1] Amen. A
freeze means a freeze. This is exactly
the sort of leadership we need from the President and Secretary of
State if we are going to achieve a two-state solution to the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict - the only way to truly secure Israel's
future as a Jewish, democratic homeland. You can bet the
Obama Administration is already hearing from hawkish voices on Israel -
urging him to make exceptions, allow for more settlement growth, and to
go slow. No way - a
freeze means a freeze. We've got to make sure the President knows
pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans support his strong line on settlements,
for both Israel's and America's sake and security. Continued
Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank is a real obstacle to
peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians - and as President
Obama said, settlements "have to be stopped." [2] Of course,
Israeli settlements aren't the only obstacle to a two-state solution to
the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.he Palestinians also have
responsibilities of their own - they must bring an end to terror and
incitement against Israel and maintain a ceasefire in Gaza. Israel also
needs to allow for Palestinian freedom of movement in the West Bank and
to open the Gaza border crossings for humanitarian supplies and
reconstruction materials. You and I know
that the dance between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Obama
over settlements is just getting started. As in the past, Netanyahu
will stall - hoping his American backers have enough time to undermine
the President's efforts in Congress or convince the President that the
political costs of bold leadership are too high. We've got to
make sure the President and his Administration hear from the majority
of Americans like us who support the President's call for a settlement
freeze, without exceptions, right now. Isaac Luria |

REMINDER: Eduardo Galeano
Don't miss the acclaimed author of Open Veins
of Latin
America (the gift that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez gave to
President
Obama) in a rare appearance in a wide-ranging conversation as he
discusses his
new book,
Mirrors: Stories of Almost Everyone from Nation
Books.
Co-sponsored by Haymarket Books, The Nation,
Democrats.com, Democracy Now!, KPFA, Lapham's Quarterly and The Paris
Review.
"Galeano's stories register the imaginations of
our
mythmaking species, the elaborate gestures of (gendered) forms of power
and the
spirit of rebellion and resilience that fires the underdog masses."
— Publishers Weekly, starred
review
"To publish Eduardo Galeano is to publish the
enemy:
the enemy of lies, indifference, above all of forgetfulness. Thanks to
him, our
crimes will be remembered. His tenderness is devastating, his
truthfulness
furious."
— John Berger
